Sophomore Anna McFaddin catches the ball after the draw in the first half of the game. After a strong second quarter, Starr’s Mill defeated McIntosh, 10-7.

Earlier this week, varsity girls lacrosse defeated the McIntosh Chiefs, 10-7.

Senior Sunny McQuade led the team with four goals. Junior Sara Marshburn contributed three goals while senior Carlee Campbell, junior Sadie Gemmer, and freshman Anna Moran each scored once.

Within the first two minutes, McQuade helped the Lady Panthers jump out to a quick 1-0 lead. The Chiefs followed by scoring twice to lead 2-1 after the opening quarter.

Starr’s Mill responded in the second quarter, scoring five goals. McQuade scored twice, while Marshburn, Moran and Gemmer added another goal. The Lady Chiefs managed one goal. At halftime, the Lady Panthers led 6-3.

“Communication as a team, as a whole [is something we need to work on], like our team chemistry, just like working together to move the ball and have fun,” sophomore Anna McFaddin said.

Campbell, Marshburn, and McQuade each scored once during the third quarter. The Chiefs scored four times to cut the Starr’s Mill lead to 9-7.

“We need to continue to work on turnovers. We had fewer than we normally do in a game, but we still need to work on smart passes and better catching,” head coach Tony Kluemper said.

Marshburn scored for Starr’s Mill in the final quarter as the Lady Panthers held McIntosh scoreless. The game ended at 10-7.

Starr’s Mill hosts Whitewater tonight at 6 p.m. with the area championship on the line.
