Last Thursday, the Starr’s Mill Panthers played their annual Battle of the Teal Bubble against McIntosh in support of Harts of Teal.
“Ovarian cancer is something that affects a lot of women and they don’t even know about it.” head coach Shayne Thompson said. “We’re trying to spread as much awareness as we can to get the word out.”
Although Starr’s Mill lost to McIntosh 3-1, both teams brought together the community to bring awareness and support to Harts of Teal.
“There are a lot more people that come out and want to help the cause,” senior Maci Morrow said.
Harts of Teal is a local non-profit started by two survivors, Andrea and Kimberly, hoping to support women who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and raise awareness about the deadliest reproductive cancer.
Ovarian cancer is one of the top most deadly cancers for women in the world. Stages of this disease advance quickly. A woman’s chance of getting cancer at some point in her life is 1 in 78. Around 21,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, and 14,000 people die from it.
The Panthers raised $852 for the Harts of Teal organization.
