Starr’s Mill is proud to welcome orchestra teacher Rae Litowich to the Panther family.

“Everyone here is really nice,” Litowich said. “The students are really nice, the front office staff is really nice, all the other teachers are really kind.”

Litowich now splits her time between Starr’s Mill and McIntosh High School.

“This building is a lot newer. The section that my classroom is in at McIntosh is the oldest section there,” Litowich said. “It feels dark and I can’t see the sunlight even when I go in the hallway, and the sound there doesn’t ring correctly because of the acoustics.”

Litowich believes that taking a subject and breaking it down so that students can gradually learn is the most important aspect of teaching. She emphasizes how teachers should bring materials to a level that students can understand, while also challenging them and causing them to grow.

“The most important thing to me is breaking things down into a step-by-step process that allows students to actually achieve and learn what you’re teaching them,” Litowich said.

Litowich grew up playing violin, percussion, piano, and singing ever since age seven. She also performs on viola and violin with a quartet called The Piedmont Strings. They are a professional group that plays at venues and events, including weddings.
