Students gather at the first meeting of Fellowship of Christian Students, a new club created by senior Kenya Sharp. FCS is centered around growing students’ faiths and publicizing Christianity around Starr’s Mill. The club is planning to meet once a month at 8 a.m. in room 815.

Senior Kenya Sharp started a new Bible study club for all Starr’s Mill students called Fellowship of Christian Students.

“I just felt called by God to start something for teens to grow deeper in their faith at school,” Sharp said. “I wanted to show them that they can bring it into any mundane community.”

Sharp plans to help strengthen her fellow classmates’ faith by leading the monthly Bible studies in prayer and study and sharing monthly Bible verses with them.

FCS met for the first time back in August with over 50 attendees. Many of these students were of the faith, although some came out of pure interest to learn more about the Gospel.

“The Lord has something bigger than I can imagine,” Sharp said. “More people wanted this than I thought and it was really exciting to see how many people enjoyed it.”

Sharp shared a Biblical story based on Luke 19 about Zacchaeus. She encouraged the students that, similar to Zacchaeus, Jesus wants a relationship with everyone. She also left everyone with a verse of the month to focus on – John 13:35, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

The club also enjoyed breakfast and fellowship before and after the meeting. Sharp encouraged camaraderie among all of the students and participation in prayer and Bible reading.

Sharp has also designed an upperclassmen student leadership team.

“The leadership team is going to be over helping plan and run the meetings,” Sharp said. “I am hoping to give people opportunities to be in leadership roles even if they think they’re too young.”

Fellowship of Christian Student’s next meeting will be held at 8 a.m. on September 14 in room 815.

“If anyone is wondering if this is something they would want to go to, or if Christianity is for them, they should not be so focused on facing themselves, but just try it out and see how real and genuine Jesus is,” Sharp said. “It’s not something you have to clean yourself up for.”
