Starr’s Mill welcomes new special education teacher Luke Hearn to the Panther family. Hearn was previously at Union Grove High school for six years. Hearn has been teaching for 10 years.

“I came into teaching a little bit later. My first career was in sales and marketing, and I wanted to make a switch,” Hearn said. “I’m really inspired by the students to see them grow and develop over time.”

As a learning specialist Hearn assists with students who have a harder time understanding the concepts they are learning in their various classes.

“Every kid can learn and deserves the right to learn,” Hearn said. “As long as we meet them at their level, they’re going to be successful.”

Hearn is father to three children and grandfather to a six-month-old. He used to be on his school newspaper in high school.

When Hearn is not in the classroom assisting students with their work, he is at home with his wife and two young children having family movie nights or spending his time listening to true crime podcasts.
