Legacy Christian Church has become a large part of the disabled community. For two years, Jesus Prom has created an environment where all people can connect with each other and all barriers are broken down.

Jesus Prom originated in Lexington, Ky., sixteen years ago at Southland Christian Church. It is based off Luke 14:13-14: “But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” This event is for anyone from ages 5 to 105 with physical or mental disabilities.

“We just throw parties,” missions minister Phil Fincher said.

Each guest is welcomed to the event by a long red carpet, lined by volunteers and paparazzi. Carnival games and music will be available for the attendees. Chick-fil-A donates a dinner to the prom and guests are welcome to eat, dance, play, and hang out for the entirety of the night.

With each passing year, the volunteers and donations grow in size. “Everyone should volunteer at least once in their life,” Fincher said. “The trick is you can’t volunteer just once. You will continue the for rest of your life.”

Starr’s Mill English teacher Ashley Collins will volunteer at Legacy Christian Church Jesus Prom for the second year this March. “I am looking forward to the event and I can’t wait to see all of the guests enjoy their night because they deserve it,” Collins said.

Jesus Prom will be held at Legacy Christian Church in Senoia, Ga., on March 16 from 6-9 p.m.
