Homecoming preview: A week ‘under the Stars’

It is beginning to look a lot like Halloween, and with that comes Homecoming week as well. This year’s theme is Night Under the Stars.

“We came up with 10 themes, and that’s the one we voted on,” Student Government Association adviser Whitney Shoemaker said. “They wanted something that has like a nighttime landscape.”

Homecoming returns to a full week of activities this year, including five dress up days. This year’s dress up days include Decades Day, Adam Sandler Day, Country vs. Country Club Day2, Character Day, and Spirit Day.

The Homecoming parade begins at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. It will follow the traditional route starting at Braelinn Elementary and ending on Panther Path.

Starr’s Mill athletic programs will again host a Trunk-or-Treat in the front parking lot later Thursday evening from 7-8 p.m.

“What Homecoming really developed into, especially here at Starr’s Mill is a big spirit week and a reminder of really what’s good about Starr’s Mill, and the school pride and spirit that we have here and being able to have some activities that allow us to enjoy that, and show off that Panther Pride, not only in the building, but also in some of the activities we do with our community,” Principal Allen Leonard said.

For the first time in three years, these activities will see the return of the pep rally, held Friday afternoon.

The football team hosts North Clayton Friday night with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Homecoming king and queen will be crowned during halftime.

The Homecoming Dance Saturday night from 7-10 p.m. ends the week’s festivities. Bring your student ID. Admittance is $15 before the day of the dance and $20 at the door.
