The midterm elections are closing in and with voting already open, Georgia is waiting in anticipation to see the results. Key state races include the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the race for governor.

Although one may not be more important than the other, the race that affects Georgia the most is the one for governor. Stacey Abrams will once again challenge incumbent Brian Kemp.

These key races decide the welfare of Georgia, and because of that, voting becomes a necessity for individuals wanting the best for their state.

“It’s really important to get out there and realize the privilege we as American citizens have,” government and history teacher Diane Ruane said.

Locally, the City Council race for Post 3. The candidates for Post 3 consist of Phil Crane, Mark D. Gelhardt Sr., Kenneth Hamner, Clint Holland, and Kevin Madden. The incumbent will not be running.

This election for Post 3 will be key in benefiting Peachtree City overall.

“The impact our local officials make on our daily lives is really pretty big,” Principal Allen Leonard.

Because many schools are polling places, Fayette County schools will be asynchronous on November 8. Early voting started October 17 and ends November 4. Sample ballots are available here.
