The One Act Play regional competition took place on November 1 at Harris County High School. While the department was unable to defend its title as Region Champions, several individual performers earned recognition for their outstanding performance.
Niamh Evans earned Best Leading Actress, while junior Allie Kemp and sophomore Ellie Williams earned All-Star Cast.
“I’m overjoyed at getting overall best leading actress, as I have worked extremely hard on this show, and it feels good when hard work pays off,” Evans said. “I will say that I wouldn’t have won this award without the talented supporting actors and actresses that made our script feel natural.”
This year, the theatre department presented “Little Women” as their Region One-Act competition piece. Although the show did not place overall, the cast and crew expressed pride in their work.
“I felt really confident and happy with our show, ‘Little Women,’ this year,” President of International Thespian Society senior Makenna Earp said. “I’m extremely proud of our hard work, no matter if we placed or not.”
Central Carrollton took home the region title with “The Addams Family Musical.” They now advance to the state competition.
Harris County High School was runner-up with the same production “The Addams Family Musical.” Harris County High School’s Odis Lloyd earned Best Actor.
The drama department has experienced significant change over the past few years, with three directors in just two years. The program is now led by Director Cody Ward, who has guided students through three productions since taking over.
With the regional competition behind them, the theatre department now turns its attention to their next projects. The Advanced Production class will perform Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew” on February 27 and 28. Following the “Taming of the Shrew,” the department will put on their annual spring musical, “Oklahoma!,” scheduled for April 17, 18, and 19.
