Being book smart is a term used to describe someone who has high academic intelligence due to excessive reading, learning, and studying of different subjects. People who are considered book smart might often be referred to as very independent and not as socially aware of their surroundings, making them not suitable for life and this trait unimportant. But the opposite is actually true.
Most likely a strong academic drive, work ethic, and discipline were engrained in the brain at a young age through schooling and developed over the next 13 years. Because these traits were started so early, being book smart has laid a foundation for many opportunities later in life.
Learning is such a critical tool for all aspects of life. Book smart people are often more knowledgeable about a wide variety of topics. The ability to work hard for something wanted and having the drive and self-control to do what is best can be so helpful in high intensity jobs, decisions, and stressful moments in life when others without those qualities may collapse under.
One of the biggest milestones in life is moving out and going to college. Being at least a little book smart is critical through all schooling and has shaped a path for one to continue on into the next chapter of life. When applying to colleges and scholarships, admissions officers are looking for your academic strengths along with others, but in the end if you do not have the grades they will not want anyone to continue education at their establishment or with their money.
The same types of patterns apply when looking for jobs. Establishments want to hire people who are smart and know how to get things done. Even if a book smart person may not necessarily know how to do everything, they have the tools and knowledge on how to find out through reading and research.
Depending on what it is someone may want to do in life, having the ability to research and learn new things is helpful. Being able to adapt to new situations because of an increased skill in abundant learning makes it easier for book smart people to wrap their head around new ideas and jobs in order to accomplish whatever needs to or wants to be done.
Having an abundant knowledge of things can also be helpful when making decisions. Knowing about history, the way the world works, or even how we as humans work is an important aspect in making good, informed decisions through critical thinking. Understanding how to make these decisions weighing the pros and cons is vital to best help someone as an individual and possibly in a group.
Although some may say that being street smart is more beneficial to prosper in life through experiences, being book smart lays the foundation from the very beginning.
The world today is set up for people to know how to adapt, research, learn, and have deep thinking skills. Being able to take all of this knowledge and tools from education and learning is a key factor in how one will be able to face challenges that may come in life.
