Freshman Bianca Galdamez is reading the book “Cinder” by Marissa Meyer.

“I like the world building of ‘Cinder’,” Galdamez said. “I feel like every character and every location has enough details that I know what to think, but not too much to drown you out.”
“Cinder” is a sci-fi retelling of the classic fairytale Cinderella with most of the plot points. The heroine, Cinder, is a cyborg mechanic who is immune to a special disease from Luna, a civilization on the Moon. Once it is revealed that Cinder is Lunar and that she is a cyborg, she comes to realize the only way to protect her love, Kai, is to take back her throne.
“[I like the author’s] writing style,” Galdamez said. “And how it is easy to understand.”
Marissa Meyer is the author of the wildly successful Lunar Chronicles series that includes “Cinder.” One of more popular novels is the story “Heartless,” which gives a sneak peek into the life of the Queen of Hearts from Wonderland as a child.
“[I recommend this to] anyone who likes fantasy or sci-fi,” Galdamez said.
The story “Cinder” delivers a powerful message of fighting against prejudices and discrimination. Cinder has to fight both as she is deemed less human due to her Lunar origins and cyborg parts.
