Math teacher Heather McNally recently read E. Lockhart’s “We Were Liars.”

“It’s a very good story with a huge plot twist,” McNally said. “I’ve started to read the prequel, which is very good.”
“We Were Liars” tells the story of the grandchildren of a wealthy, island-owning family who grow up going to the island every summer. The book portrays wealth and abuse of power as readers learn more about the main character and her origins.
“I saw the series and I loved it, so I decided I wanted to read it,” McNally said. “I hope they turn [the prequel] into a series also.”
Lockhart is a 58-year-old American author currently based in New York. “We Were Liars” is the first book in Lockhart’s series featuring other books such as “Family of Liars” and “We Fell Apart.” Lockhart was one of the writers for the children’s book series “Upside Down Magic.” She also helped in the production of the short “Lemonade in Winter.”
“I would say anybody [should read this]. It’s a very good book,” McNally said. “It has a very good story about wealth and abuse of power.”
“We Were Liars” explores the consequences of greed and lying in modern times. E. Lockhart vividly develops her story through family struggles, trauma, and characters’ moral ambiguity.
