Junior Alexandra Bowe recently read “Why We Sleep” by Matthew Walker.
“I thought it was really insightful to the purpose of why we sleep,” Bowe said.

The nonfiction book dives into all aspects of sleep. It argues sleep as the most important factor to live a good healthy life. It explains how crucial sleep is for both physical and mental health. The book contradicts the normalized ways of society’s sleep patterns and gives examples of how it helps with memory, health, and even mood.
“[My friend] told me I should read it because it helped her gain insight on the importance of sleep,” Bowe said.
Matthew Walker is a British author, scientist, and professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California Berkeley. He focuses on sleep and physical health and their relation to each other. “Why We Sleep” is his most known book and helped make a discussion that was formerly hidden more prominent.
“[I would recommend this book to] anyone who wants more insight on how to sleep better, what a lack of sleep does to your body, or anyone who likes science,” Bowe said.
This book informs the reader about the genuine importance of sleep to live the fullest life possible.
