Senior Susie Hulbert is currently reading Frieda McFadden’s “The Housemaid.”
“I picked this book because I recently saw the movie and I really liked it,” Hulbert said. “I wanted to read the book and see how they compared.”

“The Housemaid” is a psychological thriller focusing on ex-con Millie Calloway who becomes a live-in maid for the wealthy Winchester family. She is given a room in the attic that locks from the outside. As Calloway unknowingly becomes tangled up in the family’s bizarre dynamics, she begins to question what is actually going on in the house.
“It’s okay,” Hulbert said. “Since I’ve seen the movie it’s kind of boring, because I already know what happens.”
Frieda McFadden is a bestselling author of physiological thrillers and medical humor novels. McFadden is a practicing physician, focusing on brain injuries. She grew up in New York and studied at Harvard. McFadden won the International Thriller Writers Award for best paperback in 2023.
“[I would recommend this book], because I think the ending has a good message about women empowerment and how you have to stand up for yourself,” Hulbert said.
“The Housemaid” focuses on how things might not always be as they seem, and how even if everything seems good, there might be danger lurking just below the surface.
