Math teacher Arthur Walton recently enjoyed watching the Apple TV series “Shrinking.”
The show follows a quite blunt therapist, Jimmy Laird, who tells his patients exactly what he thinks. The show’s main focus is his grief journey after the death of his wife, and his relationship with his daughter and colleagues.
The cast includes some big-name celebrities such as Jason Segel as the main character, with Harrison Ford, Brett Goldstein, and Jessica Williams supporting. Randall Keenan Winston directed 11 episodes, with James Ponsoldt directing seven, and Zach Braff directing five.
What did you enjoy about this series?
“Every time it seems like it is kind of crazy, but [it is] more like real life than you really want it to be, and there is a lot of happiness at the same time,” Walton said. “There is a lot of sadness and it is how you overcome the sadness with happiness.”
What motivated you to watch this series?
“A recommendation from my best friends,” Walton said.
What was the most memorable part of this series?
“The most memorable part was when one of the main characters stood up and gave a speech about needing to rely on their friends because of the situation that they happened to be in,” Walton said.
How is this series different from others you have watched?
“Most shows either stick with straight up comedy or straight up drama or straight up action, and this one is a combination of the drama with the comedy,” Walton said.
What other series similar to this one would you recommend?
“’Parenthood’,” Walton said.
