Sophomore Madison Williams is currently watching the family comedy “Matilda.”
The movie follows a young girl named Matilda Wormwood. Matilda is an extremely intelligent child who teaches herself how to take care of herself due to her parent’s neglectful and narcissistic tendencies. Later, Matilda discovers she has teleconetic powers, which she then uses to annoy her parents and teacher Ms. Trunchbull. While at school, Matilda meets her kind teacher Ms. Honey, and the two bond immediately. Matilda’s parents later flee to Spain to avoid being arrested, and Matilda is allowed to stay with Ms. Honey permanently.
“Matilda” is based on the 1988 children’s novel by Roald Dahl. The 1996 version was directed by Danny DeVito, who also plays Matilda’s father. Matilda is played by Mara Wilson who later went on to win the YongStar award for Best Performance by a Young Actress in a Comedy Film based on her role as Matilda. The film “Matilda” won the 1997 Starboy Award at the Oulu International Children’s Film Festival.
What did you enjoy about this film?
“I liked how it was funny, and I like how it was made in the 2000’s style,” Williams said.
What motivated you to watch this film?
“I wanted to watch something that wasn’t a cartoon, since normally I watch those,” Williams said.
What was the most memorable part of this film?
“When Ms. Honey and Matilda visit Ms. Trunchbull house, and they had a whole chase scene,” Williams said. “That part has always been my favorite.”
Who would you recommend to watch this film?
“Probably my sister, since we watched this when we were kids,” Williams said.
