Drama long-term substitute teacher Will Evans enjoyed watching Wes Anderson’s “Budapest Hotel.”
The story follows a concierge for a European ski resort and his mentee through their adventures involving the theft of a painting and the change in politics in the 1930s.
The cast is led by some A-listers like Ralph Fiennes, Bill Murray, and Willem Dafoe, but the mentee, Zero, is portrayed by a lesser known actor, Tony Revolori. Owen Wilson, Saoirse Ronan, Jeff Goldblum, and Jude Law also appear in the film. The film itself is directed by the critically-acclaimed Wes Anderson, known for his specific style.
What did you enjoy about this film?
“The fact that is first, it was very visually stunning because of the way that [Anderson] maps it out,” Evans said. “I mean, it just looks like all these nice, beautiful little dioramas, so that was a visual change. But then, the great part is that it is still such a good, comedic story, and the blend just keeps going all the way through.”
What motivated you to watch this film?
“I have seen Wes Anderson’s movies before, so it is always encouraging when he comes out with a new product,” Evans said.
What was the most memorable part of this film?
“I think the most memorable part is the chase scene, because the chase scene starts as a big, huge ski slope coming down, and it is still part of those diorama movements that happen,” Evans said.
How is this film different from others that you have watched?
“A lot of what we get bombarded with is a lot of Avengers and the big budget movies and stuff like that,” Evans said. “It is good to have something that adds to your variety of things to watch.”
What other films similar to this one would you recommend?
“The ‘Isle of the Dogs’ is another Wes Anderson movie, but I love all the Tarantino [films] and a lot of the visual artists,” Evans said.
“Budapest Hotel” is available to watch on Hulu, Disney +, and Max.
