Healthcare teacher Julie McKenna recently watched the movie “Project Hail Mary.”
The movie follows a middle school science teacher who wakes up on a spacecraft with no memory of how he got there. As his memories return, he must work with an unexpected alien ally to save humanity from a solar-system-ending threat.
In “Project Hail Mary,” Ryan Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, and Sandra Hüller plays Eva Stratt. The film was directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
What did you enjoy about the movie?
“It was a person who put himself out there and didn’t just care about himself,” McKenna said. “He cared about someone else.”
What motivated you to watch the film?
“My family wanted to go see it,” McKenna said.
What was the most memorable part about the movie?
“Seeing that he was able to help both the world and the alien being,” McKenna said. “He was able to help both people, even though it was at possibly the expense of himself.”
How is this movie different from others you’ve watched?
“I don’t know if it’s very different from other movies,” McKenna said. “There’s other movies that have had kind of the same theme to it and kind of the end of the world kind of themes.”
Who would you recommend this movie to?
“Everyone,” McKenna said. “It’s a full range. Even people who don’t like science-fiction, if you have an interest at all in science or space.”
