Weight training teacher Chase Penland has been listening to “Dirt Cheap” by Cody Johnson.
“This song kind of just reminds me of growing up on my granddad’s farm, and the farm that we have now,” Penland said.
The song “Dirt Cheap” is considered to be a vibrant country song. It came out in 2023 and is the fifth song on Cody Johnson’s album “Leather.” The album has a total of 12 songs, with other top songs on the album including “Leather” and “The Painter.”
The lyrics of “Dirt Cheap” tell the story of how developers are buying up land all around a farmer. When the developers try to buy it from the farmer, he rejects the offer. The land holds sentimental and family value to him, so no matter how much money they offer, he is not letting go.
“This song makes me feel good, feel grateful for the way I was raised and what I have now,” Penland said. “I’ve really just gravitated towards this song.”
Cody Johnson is an American country singer and songwriter. He has self-released six albums and has been making music since 2006. His top album “Gotta Be Me” debuted at no. 2 on Billboard’s Country Albums chart.
“There’s so many songs by him that I listen to, I can’t even name them,” Penland said.
“Leather” was released on November 3, 2023. With the release of this album, Johnson has locked in his position as one of the country’s most consistent artists.
