Junior Willow Kann has recently been listening to “Dear Soulmate” by Laufey.
“I like the way that it flows,” Kann said. “It’s a very mellow song, but it’s also very sweet.”

“Dear Soulmate” follows the yearning for meeting your soulmate, and the wonder that comes with imagining who they might be. Laufey’s heartfelt lyrics question how her soulmate will meet her, take care of her, and share mundane, organic moments with her like picking which side of the bed to sleep on. The chorus of the song questions “Do you have blue eyes? Or are they brown like mine? / Do you have a sister too?” as the artist pictures what she will have in common with her future lover.
The song is track five on Laufey’s debut studio album, “Everything I Know About Love.” It was released in 2022, and was later re-released alongside the Iceland Symphony Orchestra as “Dear Soulmate – Live at the Symphony” in 2023.
“Dear Soulmate” is a slow, romantic backing track combined with the smooth softness of Laufey’s vocals creates a beautiful depiction of dreaming about someone you have not met.
Laufey is a 26-year-old Icelandic-Chinese singer. Laufey has brought jazz music to the mainstream, and she has recently become popular in the past few years with her blend of modern pop, melodic jazz, and elaborate instrumental compositions.
She won a Grammy for her album “Bewitched” in 2023. Her most recent album, “A Matter of Time,” released on August 22, 2025, and her upcoming tour begins next week on September 15, 2025.
“I just really enjoy listening to it,” Kann said. “[I’d recommend it to] anyone that likes really quiet music.”
