Assistant band director Dr. Bert Groover has recently been listening to “Amber” by 311.
“I like the progressive reggae vibe that they have on a lot of their stuff,” Groover said.

“Amber” is a 2001 reggae rock song by the band 311 from their album “From Chaos.” The song is known for its mellow sound, which was influenced by the band’s earlier work. Its meaning revolves around admiring a loved one, comparing them to the warm, non-harsh color of amber.
311 is an American rock band formed in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1990. They are known for blending rock, reggae, funk, and hip-hop into a unique sound. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Nick Hexum, vocalist and DJ SA Martinez, lead guitarist Tim Mahoney, Chad Sexton on drums, and P-Nut playing bass guitar.
Some of 311’s most known songs are “Beautiful Disaster,” “Love Song,” “Down,” “All Mixed Up,” and “I’ll Be Here Awhile.”
“I like the drumming on it, because I’m a drummer and Chad Sexton is one of my favorite drummers,” Groover said.
You can listen to “Amber” as well as all of 311’s songs on all major streaming platforms.
