Sophomore Liam Bell has recently been listening to “My Man on Willpower” by Sabrina Carpenter.

“I really more like the chorus melody and the bridge that are probably some of the best chord progressions that I have seen in music, like, ever,” Bell said. “It is honestly clever the way she does all of her music.”
“My Man on Willpower” was released with Carpenter’s 2025 album, “Man’s Best Friend,” on August 29. The track surpassed 100 million streams in mid-November, and currently has around 108.8 million.
It is quite an upbeat song about having a partner who has slowly become too self-centered and emotionally unavailable compared to how they were at the beginning of the relationship. Carpenter sings about how her man was once totally in love with her, but now leaves her feeling neglected and unwanted as she sings, “He used to be literally obsessed with me/I’m suddenly the least sought after girl in the land.”
The composition of the song itself is a fun mixture of eurodisco with elements of, believe it or not, country pop. Eurodisco is an electronic dance genre that emerged in Europe in the 1970s. It brings together the dance rhythms of disco with the synthesized elements of pop and rock. The use of a pedal steel flourish, a string guitar played horizontally that makes a sliding sound through pedals and knee levers, makes it have a little bit of the country pop feel as well.
“I would recommend this to people that are interested in pop, but have a little deeper connection with music,” Bell said. “People that can learn to appreciate music, just that tad extra bit, and to be able to pick out some of the things in [this] song that are really well written.”
You can listen to “My Man on Willpower” on all streaming platforms.
