“2 am” by SZA demonstrates her vulnerability as she talks about her experience and emotions with a past lover who wants nothing to do with her. This song was the 16th song on her album “Ctrl” released in 2017.

In this generation most people cannot say they have truly experienced love. You may think you are in the perfect relationship, but in reality the other person may be thinking the same thing about someone else. What do you do when that is the case? Do you stay because you do not want to get hurt, or do you leave because you realize you deserve better?

“2 am” by SZA explains her answer to the last two questions. Her decision is what most people choose, which is staying in the relationship because they are too attached. In most of her songs SZA explores this idea and encourages listeners who relate that they are worth so much more.

Not only are the lyrics meaningful, but the beats and rhythm add a beautiful element to it. The song is slow and shows SZA’s raw vocals and talents.

The song starts off with SZA reminiscing during the early hours of 2 a.m. She is unable to sleep most nights because all she does is think about a love interest who fails to return her calls, who sees other women, and who she needs to move on from.

“Ctrl,” the name of the album featuring this track, shows how SZA wants to look forward to taking control of her life in a process of self-discovery. Her first album, released in 2017, boosted her rise to fame.

You can listen to “2 am” on all streaming platforms.
