Alex Warren’s song “Burning Down” discusses toxic relationships. It is about manipulation, lying, and hurt feelings people feel while being in a toxic relationship and knowing when to leave.
The song really dives deep into these feelings by using metaphors to describe how these actions feel.
In the first verse, the music is quiet and slow moving into a pulsing piano chord for the pre-chorus then jumping into more upbeat music and vocals. This continues until he sings a bridge in a more ballad form. Lyrics, “used to tell me you’d pray for me, you were praying for my downfall” are heard throughout the whole song, explaining the hurt and manipulation that happens in these relationships.
I chose this song because I recently went to Alex Warren’s concert. The song has really stuck out to me with the upbeat but important messages of the song.
Starting as a social media influencer, Alex Warren began releasing music independently in 2021. He recently published his first album in 2024 called “You’ll Be Alright, Kid (Chapter 1),” which includes this song, as well as “Chasing Shadows” and his most popular one at the moment “Ordinary.”
He is currently on the North America portion of his Cheaper Than Therapy Global Tour.
