The song “What If I Told You” explores the belief of God wishing to know each and every one of us. Phil Wickham’s lyrics explain what Jesus did for everyone in the world.

Throughout the song, a very basic yet compelling idea of Jesus Christ is displayed. The phrase “what if I told you” is used repeatedly to ask listeners enough to astonish them of what has been done for them by Jesus Christ.
Wickham’s first lyric already pulls an audience asking, “What if I told you that you could be saved?” Right off from the beginning, the most important part of the message is told, you can be saved.
After discussing the love of God, the lyrics “He died on a cross to bury your sin” display just how much God loves you. God gave the world Jesus just so he could take away our sin. When Jesus died on the cross and buried each and every one of our sins, he saved us and displayed a love none of us are capable of fully understanding.
Later in the song, once the idea of being saved and this strong love has been displayed, the song calls to everybody saying, “Jesus is calling out your name.” This lyric is used to show that anyone is worthy of this love and is called to come experience it.
I chose this song because before the lyrics even hit, I can feel the beat making me smile. No matter how lost I feel about God, I know to play this song and then I feel His presence.
Phil Wickham released his first album in 2003. Wickham’s top songs include “Living Hope,” “This Is Amazing Grace,” and “Hymn of Heaven.”
