The intro to the song starts with a child playing the love me, love me not game. In the end, he cries out “oh, why do I overthink everything.” This builds on that message of the pain of not knowing if they love you back or not.

The first verse now goes to a more adult-like character suffering from the same feelings of finding out that there was another and he was too late. As JVKE puts it, he has “been stuck in my housе for a week, tryna be strong, but these feelings got mе weak.” For his character, he has been trying to move on, but his emotions are strong enough to keep him in his home, wasting away.

The chorus goes back to the theme of the love me, love me not game from the beginning, with JVKE singing it this time. He even goes out of his way to mention how he hopes “it breaks your heart to watch me fall apart.” He is in so much pain that even as petty as it is, he wants her to grieve, too.

Sad songs are special to me, as they make people feel heard or that their feelings are valid. So far, the feeling of not knowing whether they like you back is a real pain, and this song makes that part of me feel known.
