The “Battle for the Troops” will commemorate its ten-year anniversary at the varsity soccer games this year at McIntosh High School. All proceeds from the event go to support local veterans and first responders.

This past Monday, Starr’s Mill’s Lady Panthers hosted the Woodward High School Lady War Eagles and controlled the entire match, winning 3-0.

For the first half, the Mill dominated possession, but could not find the back of the net until six minutes remaining in the half. Junior Meritt Parker crossed the ball from the left-hand corner and freshman Sara Evans knocked it home for the game’s first score. Starr’s Mill took a 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Lady Panthers continued to press forward and get more chances. This resulted in a foul by the Lady War Eagles in the box on Evans, who then took the penalty and scored to put the Lady Panthers ahead 2-0.  Four minutes later, Evans took the ball and again found the back of the net to complete the hat trick, putting the Mill ahead 3-0.

The Lady Panthers finished out the game and the half with many more chances, but were unable to find the back of the goal again.

The Lady Panthers improved to 4-1-2 on the season. Starr’s Mill plays again this Friday at Whitewater with the varsity double header starting at 5:55 p.m.
