The “Battle for the Troops” will commemorate its ten-year anniversary at the varsity soccer games this year at McIntosh High School. All proceeds from the event go to support local veterans and first responders.

On March 6, the Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers hosted the Newnan Lady Cougars. The Lady Panthers struggled to maintain the ball and keep up with the Lady Cougars.

In a hard fought match, the Lady Cougars controlled the first half time of possession.  However, the strong play of the back line and goalkeeper junior Abby Weaver kept the Lady Cougars off the board.

In the second half, the strong play of the back line continued. Seniors Kirsten Oates, Sara Biddle, and Lauren Avidano, as well as junior Rachel Davison, freshman Mary Jane Gagliano, and sophomore Chloe Spradlin made sure that the Lady Cougars stayed off the board.

As the possession switched over to the Lady Panthers in the second half, some chances to score were had, but none of the efforts found the back of the net.  Freshman Zoey Stellman maintained the clean sheet in goal for the Lady Panthers as the match ended in a 0-0 tie.

The Lady Panthers are now 5-1-3 on the season. The Mill plays a varsity doubleheader at home on March 12 against region opponent Griffin starting at 5:55 p.m.
