Varsity boys soccer suffered a close loss in last week’s season opener.

“It’s good to play quality competition, so we have an honest assessment of where we are,” head coach Aaron Buck said.

Veterans High School was a tough team, defeating the Panthers 2-1.

Dre Brown scored six minutes into the first half for the Warhawks, the only goal of the opening half.

Dre Brown scored another and increased the lead to 2-0 16 minutes into the second half. Starr’s Mill responded with senior Chris Turner’s goal thirty seconds later, narrowing the deficit.

“We just have to take care of little details,” Buck said.

The major advantage for Veterans came in time of possession, especially after their second goal of the game. This prevented Starr’s Mill from having any chances at tying the game. The game would end 2-1 in favor of the visitors.

Starr’s Mill lost another close game Friday at Harrison 2-1.
