Senior Brooke Herdman attempts a shot. Herdman helped lead the team in points, scoring a total of 13 for her team. The 40-point win over Whitewater moves Starr’s Mill into second place in the region.

After a 40-point win over Whitewater earlier this week, Starr’s Mill extended its win streak to five games.

“I definitely think this gives us some momentum going into the rest of the week,” head coach AC Atha said. “I think that we’re playing pretty good right now, so hopefully we can just continue building on what we’re doing.”

The underclassman on the team, specifically freshman Ava Glover and sophomore Addi-Grace Morrison played key roles in the win. Glover led the team with 13 and Morrison scored 12. Senior Brooke Herman also contributed 13 points.

The Lady Panthers worked together as a team through the entirety of the game. Offense and defense were strong, and the girls never let up despite the large lead.

“I’m really excited about the next few years,” Atha said. “I think that out underclassman are starting to show a lot of leadership,”

Starr’s Mill is now 10-5 overall and 5-1 in region play. The Panthers rank second in the region behind Fayette County.

“The older kids on the team are always showing great leadership and always pushing us. It makes us want to do the same,” Morrison said. “Our energy on the bench was amazing and everybody definitely contributed.”

The Lady Panthers host top-seeded Fayette County tonight at 6 p.m.
