Earlier this week, flag football won their first region game 14-6 against Spalding. They started off very strong offensively by scoring two touchdowns before halftime.
“I feel like we slipped behind in some plays but overall we came out pretty well,” senior Maddi Carpenter said.
Junior Kayla Peavyhouse made her first pass and it was received by junior Raegan Collins who ran it into the endzone for their first touchdown. For the rest of the quarter their defense was strong and held Spalding scoreless.
At the start of the second quarter, Peavyhouse passed the ball to sophomore AP Heard where she ran it for a first and goal. Peavyhouse finished off the quarter by passing a short pass to junior Holly Harris for the second touchdown. They went into halftime with a score of 14-0.
“We mixed our defense up a little,” head coach Mark Williamson said. “I don’t know if it was great, but it did the job for us.”
The new defensive plays seemed to work well because in the third quarter senior Ella Campbell blocked a touchdown pass from Spalding. Junior Brooke Kalen then followed through in the fourth quarter and intercepted a pass from Spalding.
Starr’s Mill won 14-6. The Panthers picked up where they left off last season after going undefeated in region play.
“I plan to watch film and go over plays to prepare for the following games,” junior Raegan Collins said.
In the second game of the night, Starr’s Mill defeated Central Carrollton 24-0. The Panthers are now 9-3 overall. They play McIntosh and Trinity tonight with the first game starting at 6:45 p.m.
