Last Thursday, Starr’s Mill hosted a quad meet against Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, East Coweta, and Northgate. Starr’s Mill defeated ELCA by 12 points and East Coweta by 18 points, but lost to Northgate by 46 points.
“I come to the room and being eager to wrestle, eager to practice, and eager to get better every day,” head coach John Steiner said. “It makes it easier being a coach when the kids you have want to get better.”
The quad meet followed the previous week’s area duals competition where the Panthers placed third. Starr’s Mill used this quad meet to help prepare for the upcoming area traditional competition. This is important because they show where they are at and see if they need to improve or focus on particular skills or techniques.
“To kind of help some of the younger generation like the sophomores and freshmen, especially in wrestling, I’m getting down, putting some extra work in and teaching them new stuff,” senior Devin Starr said.
The top performing wrestlers in Starr’s Mill are seniors Starr and Alex Lutman are currently leading the team in most statistical categories
“I’m really just trying to get my cardio up,” Lutman said. “[I am just trying] to make them stay a little extra after practice and just work their hardest.”
As the Panthers approach the end of the season, the team is working on their fundamentals and technique.
The next wrestling match is area traditionals on January 30 at Harris County.
