The varsity boys soccer season came to an end on April 24 after a 7-0 loss to St. Pius in the first round of the AAAA state playoffs.
This season was a different experience for the players having no seniors on the team. The lack of seniors impacted the physicality of play for the Panthers.
“This year we watched a lot of players grow and develop in ways that I don’t think they could have if they had not been put in the position they were put in,” head coach Aaron Buck said.
The team was young, having no seniors for the first time since 1998. They finished third in the region and went 6-12 overall.
“There were a lot of unexpected twists and turns, but it was still a really fun experience,” freshman Ethan Fricke said.
By the time next season comes, the team will have sophomores with experience and seniors once again. Rising seniors Cayden Foerster and Anthony Uribe are expected to reprise the traditional leadership roles among the team.
“We ended up putting up a good fight in every game,” Foerster said. “When we lost, it wasn’t because of a lack of effort.”
The varsity girls soccer season ended in the second round of playoffs on April 30. The Lady Panthers lost 2-0 to Westminster.
