Starr’s Mill welcomes new chemistry teacher Michelle Barron for her first year at the Mill.

Barron moved to Atlanta because of her husband’s job, and she had trouble deciding where she wanted to teach. Starr’s Mill high reputation interested her to interview to teach chemistry because she wanted to see “the lightbulb go off” when they understand the lesson that is being taught.

Barron said that ever since the time she graduated from college she wanted to work as a chemistry teacher. Before coming to Starr’s Mill, Barron taught at community colleges around Georgia and said that “Starr’s Mill is the best school yet.” Barron looks forward to educating students here for a long time.

In addition to teaching high school chemistry, Barron has a unique way of spending her free time. She has a passion for helping with the animal rescue and mining for sapphire gems. “The last time I went sapphire gem mining, the highest amount I collected was 25 carats,” Barron said.

In college, Barron built huge models of liquid molecules for people to come and see, and, as a teacher, her science side is what made her want to show off her chemical reactions. She likes to show off chemical reactions to figure out what works together to change physical characteristics of a substance.

“I want to have someone not say that Chemistry stinks,” Barron said.
