Boys tennis team poses after falling to Pace in the elite eight round. The boys and girls both had great seasons, but both got knocked out in the state quarterfinals.

Both tennis teams had strong seasons that ended in the state quarterfinals. The girls got knocked out by North Hall, 3-0, while the boys lost to Pace 3-0 as well. They put up good fights, but dug themselves too big of a hole to ultimately get the win.

“I feel like we did really well. I am so proud of everyone,” senior Vaishnavi Jayakumar said. “We went really far, and we were region champs, so I think it was a really good season overall.”

The season had its ups and downs for both the girls and boys teams. The boys team had the better overall record heading into region play, but the girls are the team that came out winning the region and getting the first seed in the state tournament.

To begin the playoffs, the guys had a four-hour bus ride to play Cairo followed by a two-hour bus ride to West Laurens where they won again.

The girls had home court advantage for all three of their postseason competitions where they handily defeated Westover and Wayne County before losing to North Hall.

“I love that we have a lot of [underclassmen] coming back,” head coach Amy Evert said. “So we are going to be having a lot of these kids coming back and just improving their skills from now till next year. I am looking for bigger and better things next year.”

Starr’s Mill was slated to be getting new tennis courts this season but the production of them was halted due to them building the courts the wrong way. The production of the courts will resume again after they correct the outline.

Construction is expected to be completed before the start of the 2025 tennis season.
