“He patiently explains math in a way that is understandable to all levels of students, no matter what their deficits or strengths,” Kendrick said. “For students who have a math weakness, he is able to improve their skills while making them feel successful, supported, and smart.”
Other staff members nominated were paraprofessionals Kendra Woods and Eli Garcia, AP Psychology teacher Sean Hickey, math teachers Heather McNally and Emily Sweeney, world language teacher Laura Alldredge, and counselor MD Hallman.
Learning specialist Laura Harbin nominated senior Nate Grivno as January’s Upperclassman of the Month. Grivno was chosen because of his diligence and effort to complete assignments.
“Nate is an amazing student who has overcome many challenges,” Harbin said. “He is here every day doing the best he can to complete assignments, master concepts, and even help other students as needed.”
Other upperclassmen nominated were seniors Carina Jimenez and Kayla Sparks, and juniors Lakelyn Logan and Kiley Groft.
Science teacher Jessica Tatum nominated sophomore Lauren Moyer as January’s Underclassman of the Month. Moyer was chosen because of her respect and strong work ethic.
“She consistently completes her classwork with care and demonstrates a strong sense of accountability,” Tatum said. “Lauren is kind and confident, and she is comfortable sharing her thoughts and opinions in class.”
Other underclassmen nominated were freshmen Ryushin Hitomi and London Lewis, and sophomores Dashia Reeves-Hawes and Gerardo Reyes-Cruz
Once a month, science teacher and PBIS coach Samantha Krage sends out a link to the staff so that they can nominate teachers and students on their good mannerisms. The PBIS committee, composed of Krage and other staff, voted on Staff Member and Students of the Month.
