Drivers and teams will have to wait another day before learning how the Next Gen car will handle the redesigned and repaved 1.54-mile racing surface.

Storms that swept through the southeast early Friday afternoon prompted NASCAR to cancel all on-track activity for the day.

Shortly after 11 a.m. strong storms moved into the area. The storms included heavy rains and wind gusts nearing 50 mph. With rain predicted to persist throughout the afternoon, NASCAR canceled all activity. At 1:30 p.m. the announcement came through the media center.

The day’s schedule originally included a 50-minute practice session for all three NASCAR series. Activities were set to start at 3 p.m. with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, followed by the NASCAR Xfinity Series at 4 p.m. The NASCAR Cup Series were set to take the track at 5 p.m.

Cup series qualifying, originally scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, will now be a practice session. The starting lineup will be set according to the rulebook, giving Chase Briscoe, driver of the No. 14 Highpoint.com Ford, the top starting position for Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.

Qualifying for the Fr8 208 Camping World Truck Series and the Nally Cars 250 Xfinity Series were also canceled. NASCAR will use the rulebook to set the lineup for both races.
