Senior Evan Courvile prepares to shoot a free throw. Starr’s Mill hosted the Tip-Off Classic by Adidas and went up against Midtown in the final game of the night. The Knights capitalized on a slow third quarter by the Panthers, winning 66-46. “Midtown was a good team [athletically],” head coach Joshua Reeves said. “I think they caused us to change a lot of the shots we wanted, and because of that we couldn’t finish very well.”

Junior Greigh Joseph crosses the goal line late in the second quarter. Both teams went into the game hoping for a victory and the top spot in the region standings. “We lost our keys and our players just didn’t key in on what they’re supposed to see because they’re so used to the run,” head coach Chad Phillips said.

Junior Greigh Joseph runs through the Griffin defense. Starr’s Mill had 326 yards of total offense in the 28-21 win. “We executed well on our run game. Greigh really helped us out getting crucial runs to us and just overall offense,” Junior Jeremiah Jones said. “[We] could’ve been a little bit better on defense, but overall I think we played pretty good.”

Junior William Yarbourgh in the huddle. “We’re just going to have a chip on our shoulder after a loss like this and coming into the next game I think we’re going to come out a lot rougher than we did and deliver the first punch instead of receiving it,” junior Josh Phifer said.

Both boys and girls teams played the Chiefs in the tenth annual ‘Battle of the Bubble’ games where the girls fell 4-2, and the boys triumphed in penalty kicks. The boys game remained scoreless all the way through, with senior goalie Andrew Cole racking up six saves. “Any game like this, such high stakes on the line, region championship against the cross-city rivals, everybody wants it so bad and I wanted really really bad,” Cole said. “I gave it everything I had tonight. Super proud of all the boys too.”

Senior Brandon Allison controls the offense while Whitewater’s senior Miles Lowe guards senior Gabe Sands. Allison tied the boys team record with seven three-pointers made in one night. He now shares the record with fellow senior Elliott Baker. Starting off the game with Allison’s three-pointer in the first ten seconds, aggressive play and solid execution kept Whitewater out of contention the entire night.
