Happy Friday, Panthers! Welcome to the Grammy weekend where artists can either go home with trophies or leave feeling bitter. The 68th annual Grammy Awards stream live on February 1, 2026, on CBS. This week we have secrets of the Moskva revealed, portions of the U.S. facing another snow storm, an assistant principal at a Georgia elementary school accused of stealing from Walmart, and Amy Klobuchar running for Governor of Minnesota.
World – Secrets of the Moskva revealed
On April 18, 2022, Russia’s most prized possession, the Moskva, went up in flames and quickly sank in the Black Sea. Four years later, Russia admitted that Ukraine sank the guided missile cruiser.
The Moskva was an important warship to Russia, and seven weeks later an attack was launched. Kyiv quickly covered this incident up, claiming it had hit the vessel with its Neptune anti-ship cruise missile. Russia pushed a different narrative on this situation.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that the Moskva sank after a fire broke out and caused munitions on board to explode. The Russian military then said that the crew on the warship were evacuated, but it was later revealed some were missing.
National – United States faces another snow storm
Meteorologists predict a very strong snow storm is likely to develop along the Carolina coast within the week. It is expected for the storm to fully develop on Saturday and for it to quickly gain strength.
Due to its power, the storm will reinforce the cold air in place along the East Coast. With the temperature low increasingly likely to deepen offshore, it is expected that we will experience extreme weather conditions. If the track hits a certain spot far enough offshore, it could mean snow in almost all states along the coast.
It should be noted that it is too early to make precise predictions. However, meteorologists have ensured that they are keeping a close eye on the storm.
State – Assistant principal at Georgia elementary school accused of stealing from Walmart
An assistant principal at an elementary school in Cherokee County is on leave after being accused of nearly 100 thefts. Courtney Shawn is the assistant principal at Free Home Elementary school according to the school’s website.
An incident report filed by the Cherokee County police office accuses Shaw of stealing from Walmart 98 times. The alleged thefts occurred in a span of two months. It is said that Shaw stacked items on top of each other at checkout but would only scan one item.
According to the school’s website, Shaw has been at Free Home Elementary School since 2024. Before her time at Free Home Elementary, she spent eight years as an assistant principal at Bascomb Elementary School.
Politics – Amy Klobuchar is running for governor of Minnesota
Last week, Klobuchar took steps to run for Minnesota governor. On Thursday morning, there was an official announcement with a four-minute video on social media.
In recent weeks, Klobuchar was outspoken about ICE’s strategies in Minnesota. On Wednesday, Tina Smith called for an end to Operation Metro Surge. There was a big increase to the ICE operation of law enforcement in Minnesota since December 1. It eventually led to the fatal shootings of Alex Pretti on January 24 and Renee Good on January 7.
Klobuchar is the first woman chosen to represent Minnesota in the Senate. She will resign from her seat in Congress if she wins the governor’s seat. Current Minnesota Governor Walz can appoint someone to fill the Senate seat until an election is held to fill the vacancy.
