Happy Purge Day, Panthers! If you do not already know, Senior Assassin has started up. Every year, the seniors play an elimination game with water guns and goggles. So if you see someone wandering around with goggles on in Peachtree City, do not be alarmed. While you are putting on your goggles, take a look at this week’s KICs. This week we have the beginning of a new conflict in the world, 6 U.S. service members killed in the Iranian Strike, customer complaints prompting changes in the Chick-fil-A waffles fries, and conflict spreading across the Middle East.
World – The beginning of new conflict in the world
On Saturday, many military strikes were fired by the U.S., Israel, and Iran. Sources say tensions are only rising.
Due to Iran’s retaliation strikes, at least 18 people were killed as of Monday. President Trump has said in interviews he thought the conflict would last “four weeks” and told CNN’s Jake Tapper that the “big wave hasn’t even happened, the big one is coming soon.” In Kuwait, three U.S. jets were mistakenly shot down.
Both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have explained their goals to be only defensive. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, interviewed Monday, explained the US was aiming to “destroy the missile threat, destroy the navy, no nukes.”
National – 6 U.S. service members killed in Iranian strike
Six American service members have already been killed and four others have been seriously wounded during Operation Epic Fury. The deadly incident happened when an incoming munition hit a tactical operations center in Kuwait.
The U.S. and Israel launched a massive military operation in Iran in the early morning of February 28. This strike included attacking Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s compound in Tehran and killing him. Iran’s military launched a retaliatory strike on Israel as well as other U.S.-allied nations in the Middle East.
On Sunday night, President Trump said he “expects there to be more American casualties.” Trump later expressed his gratitude for the affected families.
State – Customer complaints prompt change in Chick-fil-A waffle fry recipe
This week, Chick-fil-A mentioned that the potato fries no longer contain pea starch. At that time, they described the adjustment as a tweak to improve the texture. The pea starch was added to the coating, which they sometimes used in the gluten-free baking to boost crunch.
Some customers made a big deal about the change. In late 2024, patrons began noticing the difference, starting debates about whether the new coating changed the taste of the crisscross-cut fries. Other people raised concerns about possible allergy problems, noting that peas and peanuts can trigger similar reactions.
Besides the controversy, they still remain as the most popular fries in fast food. The ingredients may change over time, but some people take fries very seriously.
Politics – Conflict spreads across Middle East
This past week Trump has launched a torpedo attack on an Iranian naval ship in the Indian Ocean. Iran has been facing attacks from both Israel and America during this war, and has retaliated by launching drone attacks in Qatar, Abu Dhabi, and Azerbaijan.
Now, thousands of Americans are stranded in the Middle East due to war. The senate has made attempts to stop the war by limiting Trump’s power but have failed. This measure needed a simple majority to pass, but was denied by the GOP-led Senate 47-53. The House will vote on a similar measure again this week.
More than 940 people have been killed by Israeli and American strikes, with 11 dying in Israel due to Iran’s retaliation. The U.S. attack on Iran has killed leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, creating more conflict in the region as ruling clerics select a new leader for the country.
