“We dominated the offensive end,” boys junior varsity soccer coach Derek Rials said. “But even as we did that, we remained playing hard defense not letting them get the ball near our goal.”

The JV boys soccer team walked out with their second win of the season, beating Sandy Creek 4-0 to improve their record to 2-2 on Feb. 25.

“We’re going to work on sharing the ball. Just passing the ball around and giving more chances to the team to earn more goals,”  Rials said.

Within five minutes, Panther freshman Luke Bennett scored the first goal for the Panthers from inside the box, hitting the top left corner. The Panther’s second goal was made by sophomore Colin Kelly.

The Panthers pushed Sandy Creek to the sideline and regained possession after the ball went out of bounds, and Kelly took advantage, scoring another goal from outside the box. Freshman Ben Mrosek scored the final goal before halftime in the 32nd minute from just inside the box, getting it into the bottom left corner.

Two minutes into the second half, the final goal was scored on the Patriots by Sandy Creek after a Panther player caused the team to kick it to the goalie but missed and sent it into the goal. In the second half the possession switched back and forth between the two teams giving both teams less chances at a goal.

“I was proud of the way the guys played because after we had a big lead they didn’t give up on the offence and give them a goal,” Rials said. “We kept them scoreless.”

Rials said the team needs to work on keeping the ball in their possession so they have more of an opportunity to score. The Panthers kept the Patriots out of the box, but the Sandy Creek goalie managed to block many shots that were centered and closer to the ground.

The Panthers will travel to Whitewater to face the Wildcats tomorrow at 7:25 p.m.
